~live in skeletal muscles and develop in response to overuse and/or trauma

~send pain to areas of the body other than where the dysfunction actually originates


~can create symptoms that are confusingly similar to other conditions


~can ultimately lead to misdiagnosis by physicians

~are hypersensitive and hyper-irritable


~are associated withe movement restrictions 

~complicate arthritic conditions due to pain and decreased range of motion of joints

~are not well known by many health care professionals
